International Conflict Presenter’s Profile

Dr Marianne Hanson gained her Masters and Doctoral degrees from Oxford University. She subsequently taught at Oxford University, and then the University of Queensland, Australia, where she has been based for the past 28 years. Marianne’s area of academic specialisation is in international security, international law, and weapons control. She has published widely in these fields and has made presentations on international peace and security to governments around the world, to civil society groups, and to the United Nations and its agencies. Marianne is also currently the Co-Chair of ICAN Australia. ICAN, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, was formed in Australia in 2007 and it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 for raising awareness of nuclear dangers and for building a UN treaty to make nuclear weapons illegal under international humanitarian law.
